VERENA 2013 FUN RUN

VERENA FUN RUN. See our own talented Verena young athletes and other athletes from other areas performing to their level best. "BOW NOT TO DRUGS" was our theme as this whole event contains other sports like soccer in an intervention to fight against substance abuse and alcohol. Also to give young people a platform to discover themselves and their talents. Our category also saw young up and coming female athletes.All this was carried out by Unico Information Centre in partnership with Verena Christian Youth Fellowship.

Our staff member volunteered to work hard and dedicate their time into transforming the structure that was not used into a home to many and a place of possibilities were dreams are made and enhance to realization.

JOSIAH THUGWANE OUR ICON

We as Unico Information Centre we worked with JOSIAH THUGWANE our own South African sports ambassador. See JOSIAH THUGWANE interacting with this young people and encouraging them to work hard and put more effort in training. Josiah Thugwane was the first Black South African athlete to win an Olympic gold medal.

He was born on 22 April 1971 in the small town Bethal, eastern Transvaal (now Mpumalanga). Josiah Thugwane did not receive much education while he was growing up. He learned to read and write after winning his Gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics, 1996. From 1996 to 2002 Thugwane regularly took part in national and international marathons and half marathons. In 1997 he won the Fukuoka Marathon, claiming a personal best, national record and event record all at the same time with his 2:07:28 run. In the same year he was crowned South Africa's Sportsman of the Year.
UNICO BUILDING RENOVATION
As UIC (UNICO INFORMATION CENRTE) just like most organizations we struggled to find a place or premises of our own to operate in, After being sent from pillar to post by many we never gave up on the goal of building better communities. We consulted our local counselor and our local municipality offered us this structure which was being vandalized. Our members came together and worked tirelessly to turn this building into a place of hope. a place that was once a no man’s land has now become a place where hope is restored and families are strengthen and were young people are able to be themselves and realize their potential. Youth must champion and lead their course by taking the batten and running towards their destiny with cheer determination. Unico Information Centre will be cheering along and offering all the support.
